Virginia B. Moran - Of Counsel

Virginia B. Moran received her B.A. from Georgian Court University and her J.D. cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law. She was admitted to the New Jersey Bar and the United States District Court in 1980, and the New York Bar in 1981.

Following law school Ms. Moran practiced in-house in the insurance industry, specializing in regulatory and claims matters. After serving as General Counsel to Title U.S.A., she joined Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company in 1990 to develop a regional claims office and shortly thereafter became Senior Claims Counsel with responsibility for complex and high exposure litigation in the Mid-Atlantic and New England states. In 1998, with the merger of Commonwealth and Lawyers Title Insurance Company into LandAmerica Financial Group, Ms. Moran became the Senior Counsel in charge of the company's claims in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

While at LandAmerica, Ms. Moran directed the company's response to a number of class action suits in addition to managing corporate, non-claim and title claim litigation. She attended and directed settlement conferences and mediations on complex and significant exposure claims, including major mortgage frauds, identity thefts, and mechanic's liens. Ms. Moran provided detailed risk analysis assessments to LandAmerica management and lectured on claims trends and claims handling both for company employees and through continuing education programs sponsored by the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Land Title Associations.

Ms. Moran became of counsel to Purcell in May 2009. She believes her in-house experience in cost-containment, risk assessment and resolution strategy fits well with the firm's goals of providing cost-effective resolutions and excellent service to its clients.
